(SunSentinel.com) A nationwide program to get children away from the television and into reading and other activities is available to interested schools.
The program, called TV Busters, was started by Minnesota teacher Pat Marker.
Elizabeth Waltman, a guidance counselor at Boca Raton Middle School, said the program seems effective but organizing and running it would take more time than anyone can spare.
TV Busters encourages youth and their families to turn off the television and get involved in a variety of activities.
Marker recommended a book, 365 TV-Free Activities You Can Do With Your Child, by Steve and Ruth Bennett. The book is available in local book stores.
For more information on the TV Busters program, contact Marker at 612-550-9196 or Box 505, Hutchinson, MN, 55350.
